Secondary Operations

As a full service company, we engineer, cast, machine, finish and inspect every product to ensure the highest quality standards. At our tooling facility Mirror Image Tool, we offer some of the industry’s best design and construction of secondary machining equipment. We have years of experience in the multiple complex, machining operations required by our customers. We design and construct dies, fixtures, gauges, and specialized secondary machining equipment. Our tooling capabilities ensure in-house control over every aspect of the manufacturing process at our various plant locations.
Our technology includes:

CAD/CAM
CNC milling and turning
Electrical discharge machining (EDM).

We also have the ability to have your parts coated with a variety of finishes including e coating, powder coating, or chrome. Port City Group pays attention to every detail of your project no matter how small. That is why our quality inspection facilities are unsurpassed. Our labs employ both manual and CNC coordinate measuring machines, X-ray equipment, and optical compactors to ensure dimensional correctness of your product.

Engineering

We assign an engineer to your project from day one.
They are with you from prototype through service parts.
We reduce costs for our customers with effective part design and secondary machine design that produces optimum manufacturing results. Our CAD designers are capable of taking your preliminary CAD design through IGES translation and transforming it into a cost-effective die-casting. We also employ 3D Molding, Mold Flow Analysis, and Rapid Prototyping.
Mold Flow - The mold flow analysis allows PCG to build the most efficient die the first time around. With the opportunity to thoroughly analyze the designed gating ratio prior to incorporating it in the tooling allows us to have a very high success rate at initial tool sampling. The ability to analyze potential problem areas on the screen gives PCG the opportunity to establish the proper cooling thus, ensuring a quality part to our customer.

Rapid Proto Typing - Port City Group can offer may forms of prototyping from a true die cast parts to an STL model. STL models can be used for a "hands on" visual aid while a plaster cast, sand cast, or die cast prototypes can be used for validation testing. PCG has the ability to integrate the available CAD geometry in order to provide very quick turn around, usually within a few weeks of receipt of the data and also based on the complexity of the design.

3D Modeling and Utilization
- Port City Group has the ability to receive 3D information from our customers and utilize it for quotation purposes, creation of an actual part print, and creation of CMM layout programs to verify the actual casting dimensions off from production tooling. PCG has the ability to utilize virtually any customer provided models, no matter what software they are created with.
